Two of NASCAR's best-known drivers -- Kyle Petty and Tony Stewart -- came to call in West Virginia last week. (In fact, it was the second time in two weeks Petty visited West Virginia.)

CHARLESTON, W.Va.--Gov. Bob Wise continued his walking tour this morning going door to door in several neighborhoods in Huntington promoting the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Wise walked on 9th Avenue from 16th Street to 20th Street with more than 25 volunteers to encourage families to enroll in the program, which provides health care for children of families who make too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford insurance coverage.

The Division of Natural Resources has lifted a temporary moratorium on hunting and dog training in eight eastern counties effective July 8, according to DNR Director Ed Hamrick. The ban had been put into effect May 24 in Grant, Hardy, Pendleton, Greenbrier, Monroe, Fayette, Hampshire and Mineral counties at the request of West

West Virginia State Parks is proud to present the 2002 Summer Performers Series scheduled at various park locations. Performers for this summer include the musical talent of Jim Costa, the environmental magic of Gary Boothe, champion liar Bil Lepp, Lou Maiuri's traditional Appalachian dance, the Visiting Geologist Program, storyteller Mick Souter and the Three River Avian Center's Birds of Prey Education Program. Admission to all performances is free.Gary Boothe, magician and children's entertainer, performs magic and balloon artistry with a twist. Boothe started in magic in the late 1980s and was then asked to speak to numerous schools and camps about environmental and recycling issues. He found that he could hold the kids' attention and still give a good message by using simple magic.

Cass Scenic Railroad State Park opens to the public with their trains running from Cass to Bald Knob on the 25th. For a very nominal fee visitors can experience a trip back in time onboard a fully restored Shay locomotive and see WV from one of our highest points.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Bob Wise today announced that a proposed Greenbrier Pipeline project by Dominion Resources in Fayette County has been amended with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission so the natural gas pipeline will not be visible from Hawks Nest State Park.
