Cathedral State Park near Aurora in Preston County was hit with three inches of rain in approximately 30 minutes the evening of July 9,
causing considerable damage and the closing of some portions of the park, according to Ken Caplinger, Deputy Chief for the Parks and Recreation Section of the Division of Natural Resources.

The stream flooded, damaging and making unusable four footbridges, including two that were totally washed out of place. Also, most of the trails in the center of the park were washed out and are impassable. "Much of the area will be closed until further notice, although the area around the main parking lot and a portion of the trails, including the one to the Centennial Hemlock, can still be accessed," said Caplinger.

Another storm that lasted about 30 minutes the evening of July 10 knocked out power lines at Cabwaylingo State Forest near Dunlow in Wayne County, resulting in the closing of the swimming pool and the evacuation of the group camp site and cabins. Power is expected to be restored by Saturday night or Sunday morning, according to Caplinger.
