Two robotic deer decoys, commonly referred to as “robo-deer,” were presented to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Section by the West Virginia Bowhunters Association during its June 14 meeting in South Charleston.

Accepting on behalf of DNR were District 4 Capt. D. C. Farley, Lt. C. W. Schollar, and conservation officers W. W. Brogan and W. D. Lilly. The officers demonstrated the decoys, which are used by officers in the field to curb illegal hunting activities. Robotic decoy deer can cost more than $1,000 each, and often are destroyed by poachers who think they are shooting at real deer.

For information about the robotic deer program, contact Lt. Col. William Daniel at DNR Law Enforcement in Charleston at 304-558-2784.
