West Virginia Waters to Receive Extra Trout Stockings
Posted by: Allen Canfield on Fri, 25 March 2005 15:41:13 (8148 Reads)
All waters scheduled for monthly trout stockings will receive an extra stocking this spring, according to Frank Jezioro, Director of the Division of Natural Resources. In many cases, the extra stockings will be achieved by including additional poundage with the remaining regular stockings, so extra trips will not be necessary.
βThe extra stockings are the result of above average hatchery production mainly due to above average spring flows and a relatively mild winter,β said Jezioro. β West Virginia 's trout anglers should find plenty of trout available in their favorite streams and lakes during the next couple of months. With improving weather conditions, anglers should enjoy good fishing success well into the summer months.β
The following waters are not being stocking according to schedule because of excessive snow and bad road conditions: Williams River , Spruce Knob Lake , Buffalo Fork Lake , Upper Shavers Fork, West Fork of the Greenbrier, and Little River of the West Fork of the Greenbrier. Access to these waters is being monitored weekly for possible stockings. Missed stockings will be made up during the stocking season by either adding pounds of trout to each stocking or making extra trips.
Anglers can call 558-3399 or visit www.wvdnr.gov for updates on daily stockings.
