BALD EAGLE TO BE SET FREE AFTER HEALING FROM GUNSHOT WOUNDS

A Bald Eagle was found October 16, 2004 by Mr. & Mrs. John Walls and their family on their Mercer County farm in Speedway, WV. He was quite weak and was suffering from gunshot injuries to his body and right wing. His left wing was also badly broken from falling out of the sky. TRAC Executive Director Wendy Perrone picked the bird up from the Walls family and with the assistance of volunteer and neighbor Marko Jorden, administered emergency treatment and got him stabilized. Marko had named him Comanche by the end of the initial intake procedures as a tribute to the eagle’s spirit.

Many of us have had a close encounter in our own back yards. I am not speaking of flying saucers or aliens, but of our little friends in the woods. Something as cute and cuddly as a

raccoon or squirrel can quickly become a nuisance when encouraged by our activities.

Most of these encounters end as quickly as they begin, with the animal running for cover in the nearest thicket when discovered. Others, however, may take longer to move away or

even persist night after night for weeks.

When wildlife biologist Jennifer Adams comes across a rattle-snake while doing fieldwork, she is having what she considers a very good day. While that prospect may not seem pleasant to others, Adams has been on the trail of the timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) since this past spring in the Westvaco Wildlife and Ecosystem Research Forest (WERF) in Adolph, WV.

Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary announces its next Volunteer Day will be July 13, 2002.

The sanctuary is located in Bruceton Mills, WV. If you'd like to come and help out, call Mark Jenkins at (304) 379-8908.

CRMLS is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving a permanent home to displaced captive mountain lions. We're licensed by WV DNR and the USDA. We're accredited by The Association of Sanctuaries.
